see you next year

Monday, June 30th, 2003 at about 2:29 pm

So Scott was down for the weekend. He left around 11:00 this morning. It was good to see him again. It’s reassuring to know that even though we’ve spoken rarely in the 6 months since I’ve seen him last, we could just talk again. Not about anything hugely important, but just pleasant conversation about school and things we’ve done and the past. It’s good to know it isn’t so awkward I can’t talk to him again, or for that matter my other friends as well. Sometimes I may forget it, but there’s a reason they were my friends to begin with, and seeing them again sort of reminds me of this.

No more visits with friends for a while, though. I’m still here at the shore for a few more days, but on Thursday we’re going down to Baltimore for the 4th. I haven’t seen my cousins in a year, it’s going to be good to see that side of the family. In fact, with the exception of my grandmother last November, I haven’t seen any family member in quite some time. Well, that’s all right, since I’ll see my aunt, uncle, cousins, and grandmother at the end of the week. It’ll probably be the usualy chaos, since with that many members of my family around there’s bound to be some fighting, but that’s just how it goes.

It’s astounding how fast time goes by, considering the fact that I’m not actually doing anything here. Really, I haven’t gotten anything accomplished in over a week. Today I was going to get a book and make a photo album with my pictures from Greece. Eh, I guess there’s still time, it’s only 3:30. Yes, I think at 4:00 I’ll ride my bike over to the book store. Way to be decisive.

‘aren’t we all so cool now? no’

Friday, June 27th, 2003 at about 7:11 pm

My friend Adam came down to visit yesterday and today. My mom’s friend Diane came with her son David, and was able to give Adam a ride. So we hung around for the day, went swimming in the ice-cold water, and had a great time. I’m exhausted right now, didn’t get much sleep last night. Tomorrow my friend Scott is coming with his family, they’ll stay on their boat at one of the marina’s on the bay side of the island tomorrow night and hang out with us during the day.

I can’t believe I’ve been down here a week already. Time seems to be sliding. It always does, doesn’t it? Everything takes a while as its happening, but looking back its never as long as you would expect, as you would hope, or as you would fear.

I can’t wait to go back to Long Hill and see all of my friends, but for now these couple will tide me over. I won’t be able to see Adam, so I needed to be sure I saw him now. But in August I should see most everyone else. I want to see how everyone has changed. I want to see how I’ve changed. I mean, I’ve been keeping track of myself as closely as I can, but you can only be so objective in self-analysis. I suspect I’ve changed more than I think (and I think I’ve changed a lot). Time will tell, I suppose.

Time to go. Need to find more information on hotels in England, planning for my trip there later in July. Good times.

sweat baby sweat

Thursday, June 26th, 2003 at about 9:13 am

It’s 10 o’clock in the morning, I’m sitting on the top floor of the house in my underwear and I’m sweating already. For some reason I don’t actually mind, though. It’s just sort of… the same things are.

the safety-padded lifestyle

Tuesday, June 24th, 2003 at about 6:53 pm

Another nice day down here. Adam should be coming down on Thursday, I’m looking forward to that. I can’t believe the amount of stuff I’ve forgotten to being. A belt, the cable that allows me to download pictures from the camera to the laptop, razor, power supply for my CD player, and I’m sure there’s more I haven’t remembered yet. Ah well, so it goes. It’s nothing life-threatening. Nothing is life-threatening these days.

summer sun

Monday, June 23rd, 2003 at about 7:06 pm

Well today was certainly better than yesterday. Perfect temperature, no rain, and nothing but the noisy construction next door to bother me (or rather, bother my mother, who in turn bothered me). I got my pictures from Greece developed. Most of them aren’t terribly good, but there are a couple that worked out quite well. There’s one in particular that I think is simply beautiful. Unfortunately I don’t have a scanner here to be able to put it online. If you want a good graphical depiction of how the trip went, though, I think this sums it up rather nicely.

I need to call Zoe. I haven’t talked to her since leaving, my e-mail messages don’t seem to be getting through (or maybe she just isn’t checking), and every time I call no one is home. I think maybe they went somewhere and I forgot. Ah well, so it goes. At least it looks like my friend Adam is going to be able to make it down here to visit later in the week. Probably. Still needs a bit of finalization. For a while, though, I didn’t think he was going to be able to come, so it’s good that things are looking like they’ll work out.

I think we’ll go get some ice cream sometime tonight. Not sure, though. Life is good when that’s one of your most stressful decisions of the day.

rainy days

Sunday, June 22nd, 2003 at about 10:20 pm

Holy shit dial-up internet sucks after having broadband for a couple years. Ah well, the comforts of home cannot all be everywhere with us I suppose. Speaking of which, over the winter an important pipe burst in our house, so now there’s no water until it can be repaired. Hopefully that will be tomorrow, but who knows. Furthermore, its cold and raining here. Not worth going in the water at all. So while its nice to be down at the beach, its a little useless. But at least I got the new Harry Potter book to give me something to do. I’m also determined to learn how to make Flash work with the Blogger API this summer, something which I have tried several times to do and have always miserably failed. Tonight I actually began at the beginning and bothered to learn something, and its all making much more sense.

My e-mail is finally done downloading, so adios.

leaving, and never looking back

Friday, June 20th, 2003 at about 7:14 pm

I’m leaving tomorrow morning. I have so much to say, but not the will to say it.

I promise within the next week I’ll get back to writing. I promise myself, because I need to just write sometime. I did a little on the trip to Greece, but now I feel the need again. It’ll hate to wait for later, I’m afraid: now I’ve got to finish getting ready to leave.

endless days of summer

Thursday, June 19th, 2003 at about 5:53 pm

so tired….

and typing feels alien too. But that’s all right, so long as I’ve got this yogurt. Mmm-mmm good.

I spent the entire afternoon with Zoë. I’m not going to see her for 8 weeks. It’s going to be a bad time. I mean, I’m sure I’ll have fun at the beach and in Europe, but it’s just going to be a little different, is all. Hopefully it won’t be that bad. Or hopefully it will be, maybe. I’m not sure which means more.

land of the gods

Wednesday, June 18th, 2003 at about 6:11 pm

I’m back, but only to leave again in a few days. I’m going to be busy getting ready to go to New Jersey. Not sure if I’ll have time to post or not.

Oh, and Greece was wonderful.
