aurevoir

So, Friends ended tonight. And I dunno, but to me it sorta seemed like it sucked. I haven’t watched that show in a while, so maybe I just don’t appreciate it anymore. But that acting seemed worse than most of the television I watch (admittedly little). Well, a cultural icon has ended. Although I really must admit, I’m going to miss Frasier more.

‘…smeared black ink…’

There are ants living in my bathroom. Somewhere in there, they must be. They come out sometimes. I’m no neat freak, but I like things to be a little more sterile than that. Oh well, I guess this is a valuable lesson in getting along with the rest of nature. Living in harmony and all that. Or something. In any case, there’s nothing I’m going to do about it.

I made the mistake of actually looking at a practice AP test for the first time last night. That shit is hard. But I guess that’s to be expected. Just not by me, until last night. I looked at the first 20 questions and didn’t know any of them. Which means I’m sorta annoyed I spent so much time reviewing, considering it did no good. Oh well, maybe the actual test will be easier. Or the questions that are chronologically later.

There are things completely filling the next several weeks. Tests and AP’s this week, Big Show tech week next week, work day this weekend, Big Show itself next weekend, then there’s the last week of classes. Who knows what’ll be going on then. Then there’s prom, then finals, then the first day of break I’m on a plane for the other side of the world. I guess “completely filling” is too strong a word. Things are at a plenty manageable level at the moment. Once this AP is out of the way I’m actually basically home free.

The days are beautiful this time of year. Green exploded, it’s not too cloudy, the wind died down, and it’s a lovely temperature. It’s going to get too hot in a couple of weeks. But, hey, that’s how it goes.

Tom Waits, “Singapore”

We sail tonight for Singapore, we’re all as mad as hatters here
I’ve fallen for a tawny Moor, took off to the land of Nod
Drank with all the Chinamen, walked the sewers of Paris
I danced along a colored wind, dangled from a rope of sand
You must say goodbye to me

We sail tonight for Singapore, don’t fall asleep while you’re ashore
Cross your heart and hope to die when you hear the children cry
Let marrow bone and cleaver choose while making feet for children shoes
Through the alley, back from hell, when you hear that steeple bell
You must say goodbye to me

Wipe him down with gasoline ’til his arms are hard and mean
From now on boys this iron boat’s your home
So heave away, boys

We sail tonight for Singapore, take your blankets from the floor
Wash your mouth out by the door, the whole town’s made of iron ore
Every witness turns to steam, they all become Italian dreams
Fill your pockets up with earth, get yourself a dollar’s worth
Away boys, away boys, heave away

The captain is a one-armed dwarf, he’s throwing dice along the wharf
In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king, so take this ring

We sail tonight for Singapore, we’re all as mad as hatters here
I’ve fallen for a tawny Moor, took off to the land of Nod
Drank with all the Chinamen, walked the sewers of Paris
I drank along a colored wind, I dangled from a rope of sand
You must say goodbye to me

springtime in the garden of surreality

Saturday, May 1st, 2004 at about 9:50 am

I’m going to Singapore! For a week, as soon as school ends. And Zuke is going to be there. Should be a rollicking good time, no? AP next friday. Big show in a couple weeks. At least I’m too busy to be bothered by most things, but not so busy that I’m freaking out. I’m the right level of busy. Summer is so close, but I don’t want this rainy spring to end.
