v-day for d-day

Hey, it’s Valentine’s day. It would be sweet if it wasn’t created by the corporations to sell cards and candy. Hency, I’m boycotting cards and candy. Then it’s all right, no? Not that it matters. Maybe Valentine’s day is really just an occasion to encourage procreation. I mean, it’s not like we need the population increase, but it’s conceivable. I was developing this theory about how it was a post-war invention designed to help restore the population. But that doesn’t make any sense, because it began being celebrated in the 1700’s and the population boomed after the second World War anyway. So much for that theory.

i remember that episode! And then she started bragging about it to people, and her millions of brothers and sisters were like, “uh… that’s great…”

valentines day was originall a catholic holiday celebrating st. valentine.
i don’t think there’s any point to it. couples don’t need an excuse to be lovey-dovey and it just depresses those without a significant other.

after mom (does she have a name?) told lucy, mary asked and the mom was like “i’ll tell you after you’re married.” that baffled the hell out of me. i mean mary isnt the oldest, so it’s not like they had premarital sex (*gasp*)… so when *was* mary concieved? hm. it is a mystery.

  6. tom Says:

Just because she’s not the oldest doesn’t mean it wasn’t pre-marital. Makes it less likely, maybe, especially given that he’s a minister. Maybe it was when they were in some embarrassing place/situation. Christmas, perhaps? Or maybe it’s just an excuse to make things a little more interesting.

i think the point that it was somehow dirtier… i don’t know why or how. you know those teen shows, they’re so logical…

  8. tom Says:

yea, they used to seem so… realistic. Now they’re just trippy pseudo-realities…

if any of you read “Dave Barry’s Bad Habits” (which I’m sure is part of the standard repertoire of every American), you could recall the following passage:

“St. Valentine’s Day as a lovers’ festival and the modern tradition of sending valentine cards have no relation to the saints, but, rather, seem to be connected either with the Roman fertility festival of the Lupercalia or with the mating season of birds.
This means that at this very moment, you kids may be in school cutting out little construction paper hearts to celebrate the sexual activity of Romans or birds. No wonder people don’t go to church anymore.”
